An official source at the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus confirmed that the Iraqi and Syrian governments have reached “advanced stages” regarding the opening of the border crossing between the two countries.

The source strongly denied the news circulated about the talks between the Iraqi government and the Syrian Democratic Forces to open a new crossing between Iraq and Syria in the Khaneh Soor in the northern part of the Sinjar district.

The source stressed that “the Iraqi and Syrian governments are seeking to open the existing Albu Kamal crossing and work is underway, and that they have reached advanced stages in this direction.”

Syria and Iraq are linked to three crossing points, the “Al-Yarabiya” crossing, on the Iraqi side, the “Rabia” crossing, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, and the Al Waleed crossing on the Iraqi side.
