Extremists this week caused extensive damage to five mosques in northern Baghlan province in Afghanistan after setting them alight, local officials said.

Abdul Rasheed Nadem, head of Baghlan’s Hajj and Religious Affairs Department, said that the incident happened two days ago in Dand-e-Ghori village in Pul-e-Khumri the capital of the province.

No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the incident yet.

However, the residents of Dand-e-Ghori said that ISIS is active in the area.

The police have meanwhile launched an investigation into the incident.
