Crises and disasters in Muslim world kill 108,000 people in 2014

A recent report revealed that crises and disasters that occurred in member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other Muslim minorities last year have led to the deaths of 107,902 people and dislodging more than 17 million between displaced and refugees.

The report, issued by Islamic Cooperation Humanitarian Affairs Department (ICHAD-OIC), showed that around 45 crises and disasters hit 27 Member States as well as countries like Myanmar and the Central African Republic and some crises and disasters still occur in the Islamic world.

It also stated that the crises and wars caused the deaths of 101,365 people, while 29 natural disasters that occurred in 19 OIC affiliated countries and Myanmar, caused the deaths of 6537 people.

The report also indicated that Syria was one of the countries that suffered the most of human causalities with 67,021 deaths followed by Iraq 15,538 deaths, Nigeria 8,464 deaths and Afghanistan 4,950 death.

Lastly, Sierra Leone and Guinea were countries that had the highest number of human loss as a result of epidemic diseases (Ebola virus).
