In the city of Basrah – where a great number of pilgrims come across, heading for the holy city of Karbala – it becomes crowded for a couple of days; people from Basrah, Iran, and other Arab and foreign countries come through Basrah, for it is Iraq’s largest port. During such days, it is difficult for the pilgrims to continue to move; therefore, people of Basrah have begun to use various means of transporting pilgrims and offering them food, water, medical assistance, etc.

There are 20 boats transporting pilgrims day and night for free. The owners of the boats pay for the fuel and maintenance. Pilgrims expressed their gratitude for the great help offered by the generous people of Basrah.
