Quran copy attributed to Imam Ali on display in Mashhad

An old manuscript copy of the Holy Quran attributed to Imam Ali has been put on display in Mashhad, northeast Iran.

 

An old manuscript copy of the Holy Quran attributed to Imam Ali has been put on display in Mashhad, northeast Iran.

The Quran and Exquisite Items Museum of the holy shrine of Imam Redha has exhibited the manuscript.

According to Seyed Jalal Hosseini, head of the Libraries, Museums and Archives Center of the holy shrine, it is one of the oldest copies of the Quran in the world.

He said the Kufic script Quran that dates back to the first Hijri century was gifted to the holy shrine by the Safavid ruler Shah Abbas I.

The deerskin manuscript contains all Surahs of the Holy Book.
