Freemuslim association published a statement, calling for an end to torture and brutal behavior on June 26, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Here come some parts of the statement:

“Fueled by racial, political, nationalist and ethnic motives, physical and mental torture are still being used by oppressive regimes and terrorist organizations in order to draw confessions from people, in blatant defiance to all international laws and regulations.

Under international laws, torture is counted a criminal action and it cannot be justified under no circumstances. In fact, torture is the redline that should not be crossed by any member of the international community, regardless of the conditions and reasons. Today, it is public knowledge that torture is a dehumanizing act that would lead to the degradation of individual and social dignity.

On 12 December 1997, by resolution 52/149, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 26 June the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, with a view to the total eradication of torture and the effective functioning of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

However, multiple reports have confirmed the frequent use of torture in our civilized world.

To put an end to this trend, Freemuslim insists on joint and comprehensive action by all human rights foundations and governmental entities to stage a fight against the practice of torture across the world, and punish the perpetrators of such actions with serious measures.”
