In its special session on Monday, the National Assembly passed the Jaafari Personal Status Law, which operates according to the doctrine of Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, in its deliberations and referred it to the government.

According to Kuwaiti news sites, the vote ended on the first session with the approval of 49 members and the non-approval of 5 members from the total of 54, while in the second deliberation 48 members approved and 8 disapproved from the total of 56.

At its special session, the Assembly discussed the 38th Report of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee on the two bills on personal status laws.

They also discussed the 102nd Supplementary Report to the Thirty-eighth Legislative Report on the amendments to the draft law that the Committee had concluded in its 38th Report on the personal status of Jaafari.

The Chairman of the Legislative Committee MP Khalid Al-Shatti said that the Committee has complied with the views of the Supreme Council of the judiciary, which considers the merits of this report, stressing that the adoption of this law contributes to support judges in their work.

The Personal Status Law contains 522 articles on divorce, marriage, inheritance, birth, will and Waqf.
