The 62nd edition of Malaysia’s annual international Quran contest that was scheduled to be held in April has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

According to officials, the contest has been rescheduled to the lunar Hijri month of Dul Qa’da (July).

 

He cited the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) as saying that as a precautionary measure given the spread of the coronavirus, the contest has been deferred until July.

He said the embassies of participating countries will soon be officially informed of the new date of the international Quranic event.

Malaysia’s Quranic event is world’s oldest international Quran competition.

The novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, has infected more than 126,000 people around the world.

The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events canceled or postponed.
