The local government in Lower Saxony is working on a project to teach imams at the state level.

The State Department’s Minister of Culture and Science, Hernd Tomler, believes that the project provides positive conditions for the education of German imams, however it is opposed by several MPs.

Muslim clerics can receive Islamic instruction at the Sharia Branch, and under the supervision of various Islamic associations.

The state of Lower Saxony is one of the 16 German states in northwestern Germany and is implementing a national project to teach imams.
