Germany asked Saudi Arabia to stop the escalation in Yemen and resume direct talks, confirming its continued arms embargo to the Kingdom.

This came at a joint press conference held by the German Foreign Minister, Haikou Maas, with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in Berlin.

The German Foreign Minister said, “The cessation of arms exports applies to all parties involved in the Yemen war.”

The German minister urged Riyadh to stop the military escalation in Yemen, pointing to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in this country as a result of the war.

Maas stressed, “Riyadh’s resumption of direct talks with Ansar Allah is a step in the right direction, but it also needs to return to the UN-led political talks.”

The German minister indicated that Saudi Arabia should undertake further social and economic reforms.
