Salam Organization for Democracy and Human Rights said that on 11 December 2019, the criminal court in Bahrain issued sentences reaching life imprisonment for victims of torture and enforced disappearance after an unfair trial.

The organization mentioned that it has documented cases of torture of some of the victims and their enforced disappearance, including journalist Hassan Qambar, and monitored the course of the trial, which did not take into account the application of international standards for fair trials.

The court had issued the sentences of the victims in absentia and we accused of establishing a terrorist cell.

Eight victims were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined 100 thousand dinars, seven were sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 100 thousand dinars, the others were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 3-15 years. Only one was acquitted.
